Puerto Vallarta Nightlife
Puerto Vallarta's nightlife doesn't get underway until about 11 pm. Dinner at Puerto Vallarta restaurants aren't scheduled until about 9 pm or 10 pm for this very reason. But once they're underway Puerta Vallarta's nightclubs, discos and bars are booming with the sounds of live bands, flamenco, jazz, dance and even folk music.
The center of nightlife is the downtown Malecon (the city's beachfront boardwalk) where many of the tourists and city locals dine under the open stars. The Malecon is also the setting for live bands, street theater, puppet shows, folklore festivals and open-air dances. Puerto Vallarta's hottest discos can be found on the upper floors of buildings along the Malecon. The discos usually have balconies overlooking the streets below. The Malecon is entertainment central all day long so families and those who prefer to go to bed early will still get their share of Mexican culture here. Mariachis, traditional strolling troubadours and flamenco dancers, entertain on the boardwalk all day and all night.
South of the Rio Cuale, in the Los Muertos Beach area, is a rowdier nightspot, where mostly men tend to congregate in the area's rock clubs, jazz clubs and strip bars. Drink prices are generally higher here then on the Malecon.
Couples will want to go outside the city limits for a romantic evening of dinner and dancing under the stars. Puerto Vallarta's more lavish restaurants and nightclubs are hidden away along secluded cliffs and lagoons.
