Galerias - Puerto Vallarta's galerias (galleries) are numerous, and focus on the works of local artists; who are typically on-hand to explain their creative process. They include:
Puerto Vallarta's Galería AL (Arte Latinoamericano) – showcases the work of mostly young, Latin American artists. The gallery is situated in a historically preserved building with exposed brick walls and a breezy courtyard. Gallery showings run Mondays to Saturdays from 10:30 am to 9 pm.
Puerto Vallarta's Galería Pacífico - is considered one of Mexico's finest displays of sculptures and paintings from art masters to contemporary local artists. Galeria Pacifico is located less than two blocks from the Malecón, and is open Mondays to Saturdays (Sunday's by appointment only), from 10 am to 3 pm and 5 pm to 9 pm.
Puerto Vallarta's Mercado Municipal – this outdoor market along Rio Cuale Island encompasses a full city block with its colorful stalls and lively vendors. Mercado merchants sell everything - clothes, jewelry, shawls, leather goods, paper-mache puppets and cheap Mexican foods. The bargaining takes place daily from 9 am to 7 pm.
Puerto Vallarta's Huichol Indian Art - Huichol Indians are descendants of the Aztecs. Today they preserve their ancient traditions, customs, language, and habitat by living in seclusion high in the Sierra foothills. Huichol art is unmistakably wound with colorful yarn, clay, beads and spiritual mysticism. Tourists will run into Huichol Indians on the city streets selling traditional art. A number of fine Huichol galleries can also be found downtown.
